ABOUT ME
Trained as an Asia specialist, I teach social science courses on contemporary Asia and conduct research on the Chinese diaspora, multiculturalism, cultural politics, regional dynamics and religious identity in Southeast Asia.
With the rise of Asia, I am excited by the boundless potentials that this region could bring to the world.
I am multilingual, multicultural and am an avid believer of diversity and inclusion.
I speak English, Mandarin, Indonesian, Malay and a few Chinese dialects.

HIGHLIGHTS
I have more than 15 years of experience in tertiary education, including research, teaching and administration. My research has been published in the form of books, journal articles, book chapters, op-ed articles and commentaries.
Beside teaching and research, I regularly present papers in international conferences, facilitate workshops and intercultural dialogue, organize conferences and engage in consultancy with public and private organizations.
RESEARCH
Won SMU Research Excellence Award in 2014
Completed more than 20 research projects funded by Australia, Singapore and Brunei governments on topics related to Chinese Diaspora, ASEAN-China Relations, Identity Politics, Multiculturalism, Education, Interfaith Dialogue and Socioeconomic Development.
TEACHING
Won SMU Teaching Excellence Award in 2012.
Featured in BBC and The Straits Times for innovative teaching of Managing Diversity in Asia.
